Cane detailing and wicker furniture has been making a strong comeback in recent times. While I’ve had my eye on more classic wicker pieces (hello Thonet 210 R) Sven and I aren’t quite ready to make that type of investment yet. However, I did happen upon this cute vintage (possibly antique) chair with cane work on the seat. Best of all, he was only 5 euro!

I like to have an interesting mix of old and new pieces in our flat. I feel like it makes the space more homey and warm – especially the wooden pieces. When I found this chair at the thrift furniture store in our neighborhood, it was a perfect fit! I think it pairs nicely with the small white wire table and adds some needed warmth to our fresh and cozy bedroom. In all fairness, I’m not so sure if the chair is entirely safe to sit on! You can see that parts of the wood are cracking, but I was happy to give him a new home. He’s the perfect “designated pillow holding chair” when we take the extra cushions off the bed at night

I feel really lucky that we have this amazing thrift furniture store so near to our flat. I’ve already found so many cool treasures there (like this gold night stand, round mirror, and marble table). It’s wonderful to be able to find interesting pieces that are also secondhand. Furniture is a special type of product because it gets to live a long life, maybe even in a few different homes. It’s not the type of product that quickly becomes the next layer of a land field, and I am really drawn to contributing and supporting that type of longevity. It’s one of the main reasons why I decided to focus on furniture professionally and while studying industrial design during university.

Below are a few more recent shots from our bedroom. The sun has been shining so much here in Berlin lately, and that makes me very happy. I always feel my absolute best when we have sunny days, especially after the grey and dark winter. It makes me very thankful that our little apartment gets a lot of light all throughout the day when it’s not overcast – the highlights and shadows create such a mood.
