Castell Son Claret ~ A Mallorcan Escape

Castell Son Claret, Mallorca Spain

Surrounded by acres of untouched Balearic countryside, Castell Son Claret is an Mallorcan retreat that waits to welcome you. First mentioned in the fourteen-hundreds, this historic castle has been meticulously transformed into a world-class oasis of calm. Just a few weeks ago, Sven and I had the luxury of escaping to this gorgeous hotel for a relaxing weekend of Mediterranean scenery complimented by five star comforts, incredible food, and the friendliest hospitality we could have wished for.

Accommodations
During our visit to Castell Son Claret, Sven and I were lucky enough to stay in one of the hotel’s luxurious Pool Suites. As the name suggests, the suite came with its own private pool surrounded by sprawling gardens which overlooked the beautiful nature preserve. I can absolutely recommend this option for guests who are fond of privacy and seek restorative moments. For the majority of our visit, Sven and I spent our time lounging in our own poolside oasis — enjoying an afternoon coffee or evening glass of wine from our lounge beds. But of course we found everything to our liking inside the suite as well. The charming stone bungalow was roomy and well-appointed, complete with a comfortable king-size bed, spacious marble bathroom, separate living room, and ample storage. And with 43 unique rooms and suites throughout the entire property, there’s something for everyone at the castell.

Atmosphere & Amenities
Tranquility is the detail that ties each corner of Castell Son Claret together. Across the entire property, guests will find enchanting areas to draw them closer to nature and relaxation. Although the estate is only 30 minutes from Palma’s buzzing city center, it feels worlds away thanks to the 326 acres of unspoiled landscape and the surrounding La Tramuntana mountains. Those curious to explore the nearby countryside will find walking paths and cycling routes at their feet, but of course there is no need to leave the property at all. Time is best spend lounging in the manicured gardens or by the glistening infinity pool, and there’s also tennis courts, sports facilities, and a spa with traditional sauna and hammam onsite to enjoy.

Breakfast & Fine Dining
Each morning, the preparations for breakfast begin before sunrise at the Castell Bakery. Following local artisan traditions using naturally cultivated grains, the dough is kneaded and baked to perfection to become the perfect foundation for the hotel’s gourmet breakfast buffet. A large selection of regional fruits, vegetables, meats, and cheeses are prepared each day — completed by a delicious spread of house made marmalades and fresh pressed juices. In the evening hours, the breakfasting terrace is transformed into one of the hotel’s restaurants, Olivera, where guests can sample Moroccan style dishes infused with Mediterranean flavors. Sa Clastra is the second restaurant at the castell — a sanctuary of fine-dining with Chef Jordi Cantó at the helm. Here, guests can experience an avantguard tasting menu with traditional roots, accompanied by expertly selected wines from both the region and afar.

Beaches & Local Surroundings
While Sven and I spent most of our time within the grounds of the castell, there’s lots to explore in the surrounding area. Those interested in soaking up some sun by the seaside can find wonderful beaches in the nearby fishing village of Sant Elm. Sven and I had a perfect afternoon here taking in the views of Dragonera Island and the boats which dotted the horizon. Punta Blanca and La Trapa are also good picks for those interested in historic ruins, hiking, and panoramic views of the rocky coastline and sea. And of course, there are many small villages and towns to discover across the region of Andratx’s rolling hills, so it’s absolutely worth having a car when visiting Mallorca and Castell Son Claret!
