GUBI 3 Days Of Design

Last month in Copenhagen during 3daysofdesign, GUBI premiered their artistic collaboration with locally based sculptor Josefine Winding, celebrating the space and connection between art and design. Centering on a piece that blurs the lines between sculpture and furniture, GUBI unveiled the Adesso side table alongside 15 other original sculptural works by Josefine.

As part of a limited-edition series of six tables cast from concrete, the Adesso table combines asymmetry and fluid forms with angular lines and natural textures — elements intended to amplify curiosity and a desire to interact with the piece. The intention behind Adesso was based on living in the moment and connecting with the space that surrounds — the same in-the-moment-mindset that guides Josefine’s hands as she sculpts. But beyond being a beautiful and functional piece of art, a portion of proceeds from each Adesso table will be donated to support SOS Children’s Villages through projects funded by My Foundation.

As for the new pieces introduced by GUBI, Space Copenhagen has contributed several beautiful collections to the brand’s already striking portfolio. Their Unbound Collection is a lighting series that explores the balance between materiality, elegance, and craft. The heavy marble base allows the column-like linen shade to rotate freely. As the lampshade seemingly floats above the stone, its ambient light can be swiveled to illuminate the space around. The understated yet perfectly proportioned form of the design lends itself well to a range of sizes, including a large floor lamp, mid-size lamp, and small table lamp. In addition to the Unbound Collection, GUBI also introduced The Private Collection by Space Copenhagen which pays homage to traditional Japanese craft and carpentry defined by sophisticated lines and clean detailing. The collection includes a vitrine, sideboard, desk, and side table that are available in several shades of grain-matched veneer.

Another recent GUBI introduction which I was excited to finally see in person is the MR01 Initial Chair by Mathias Steen Rasmussen. The low-sitting lounge chair represents a deep understanding for honest craftsmanship and traditional wood artistry, reducing the materials down to only wood and rope. The entire chair is constructed completely without nails or fasteners, using only expertly crafted joinery and hand-weaving techniques to create the final form and comfort. As you scroll through the photos below, you’ll be able to spot all of the pieces mentioned above along side many other iconic designs from GUBI — my favorite being the Stay Lounge in Moonlight Sheepskin. You’ll also see several images of Josefine Winding’s Adesso table and sculptures.
