All Year Linen ~ Sustainable Fashion by Simple Stories

    November 13, 2020
Simple Stories Outfit Inspiration, RG Daily Blog

When it comes to my wardrobe, I love finding pieces that can carry me from season-to-season. I’ve been wearing these linen dresses by Simple Stories practically all year round. They’ve been perfect for layering during this colder weather, and are comfortable and cozy to wear at home or out while running errands.

Simple Stories was founded last year by two life long friends, Miky and Alexandra. Based out of Romania, they work with locally sourced natural linens and produce all of their garments to-order at a atelier near their homes in Bucharest. Every decision they make along the way is based in their shared belief that fashion should be simple, timeless, and inspired by an attitude of buying less and investing in long-term pieces that will wear well throughout the seasons. Their soft linen fabrics have a perfect weight and structure, being airy yet durable at the same time, and they have several shades to choose from in their considered collection.

My favorite of their designs is the classic Riviera dress. It’s simple and versatile, yet incredibly feminine and falls nicely without being either boxy or clingy — two things I usually struggle with when it comes to finding a slip dress. This style comes in a few different colors, and I have it in both black and white. While I was wearing each a lot over the summer, I’ve been wearing them almost just as often this autumn as well. The black dress looks perfect when layered with a knit pullover or cardigan and boots, and the white linen feels so cozy with slippers and oversized sweaters at home.

Simple Stories has other items as well, like loungewear, jackets, and blouses. You can explore their full collections on their site and I would also suggest to follow the brand on Instagram. Miky and Alexandra regularly share their thoughts on slow-living and sustainability in their daily IG stories, and I always feel inspired to make better, more conscious decisions when it comes to fashion by the thoughts they share there.

    ~

What inspires us the most is a slow and simple lifestyle. The smell of fresh coffee in the morning, waking up early in the morning to enjoy the empty streets of Florence, the feeling of air dried sheets, a good old Italian song and a glass of wine after a long day. We imagine clothes that make us feel comfortable and beautiful, and most of all that give us freedom to move and enjoy all these simple things.”

    GLDN ~ Everyday Gold Jewellery

    November 9, 2020
    GLDN Jewellery

If you’re on the hunt for the perfect everyday gold jewellery, my friends at GLDN have got you covered. Most of the jewellery that I wear on the day-to-day is by GLDN. They make all of their pieces by hand and have a really lovely collection of items that can be customized.

Most of their pieces can be ordered in either gold-fill, sterling silver, or solid gold so there’s something to find in every price-range. One of the things that I love most about GLDN is that the brand is super involved in supporting nonprofit organizations. Through some of their collections, they even give back 100% of profits to organizations they partner with. You can explore those collections here, and find out which organization their different jewellery collections support.

From now until the 21st of November, GLDN is having their one-time annual sale — just in time for the holiday season too! The discount code THISISIT will save you 15% on all orders, and you can save 20% by using the discount code THISISIT20 for orders over 150 euro. This sale does excludes solid gold pieces.

    Interior Snapshots & Fall Vibes

    November 4, 2020
    Interior Design Inspiration

I thought I’d share a few more interior snapshots before fall fades away and we slip right into winter. The light at home has been… dull, to say the least. But it feels cozy, and gives me plenty of excuses to light a bunch of candles every night.

Actually, the sun sets so early here now-a-days, the candle-lighting ceremony at our flat has been kicking off around 5 pm. It’s November after all, so I suppose we’re right on track. But at the same time, it’s impossible to ignore the fact that things feel different and strange, and we’re all gearing-up for a holiday season that’s bound to also feel a bit unusual too. To be totally honest, it’s hard to not get bogged down by it all. And it’s odd to known that we’re in the second-to-last month of this bizarre year already. Oh, 2020…

During normal times, November was always my “give-it-my-all” month. The month that my final bursts of productivity bounced out before December (and all its accompanying food-commas) took over. This November feels a little different, and kicking off the month with a reinstated lock-down didn’t quite put any additional “pep-in-my-step”. But like everyone else out there, I’m just going along with it and doing my best.

This post seems a bit ranty… sorry for that. However, I do want to say that it’s super normal if you’re feeling a bit down-and-out right now. I feel it too. I really hope that all of you are well and staying safe and healthy. Be cozy at home, and just take time to enjoy the little things… like lighting candles, eating chocolate, drinking tea (or wine), and reading your favorite book or streaming your favorite show.

    Xx, Rebecca

SO/ Berlin Das Stue ~ A Weekend Getaway

    October 30, 2020
    Hotel SO/ Berlin Das Stue

In the heart of Berlin’s embassy district between the Zoo and Tiergarten Park, you’ll find SO/ Berlin Das Stue — a boutique hotel steeped in architectural grandeur and modern luxury.

The historic building, which originally housed Berlin’s Royal Danish Embassy, has been wonderfully reinvigorated thanks to an exceptional combination of contemporary design and top-tier hospitality. In order to transform the stately embassy into a 5-star urban oasis, SO/ Berlin Das Stue worked with world-renowned Spanish architect and designer, Patricia Urquiola. Brilliantly juxtaposing the building’s stone-clad façade and grand foyer, modern elements and warm materials have been thoughtfully combined to create an atmosphere that’s warm, enveloping, and undeniably cosmopolitan.

Nods to the building’s Danish heritage can be spotted around Das Stue in the forms of Flos lamps and Arne Jacobsen chairs, details which deepen the living-room-like ambiance that flows throughout the hotel. But like Berlin itself, the soul of SO/ Berlin Das Stue pulses with expressive style and art. Animals sculptures by artist like Quentin Garel and Benedetta Mori playfully underscore Das Stue’s unique proximity to the zoo — the hotel is so close, it even has it’s own private entrance.

A Weekend At SO/ Berlin Das Stue

    Arriving At Das Stue
Sven and I decided to play tourists in our own city, checking into SO/ Berlin Das Stue for a relaxed weekend getaway. Even though the bustling streets of Kurfürstendamm are just minutes away from the hotel, the peaceful neighborhood and green surroundings give you the feeling you’re worlds away from the chaos of city life. During our time there, we were sure to absorb all that Das Stue has to offer.

    A Room With A View
Our accommodations were on the top floor of the hotel — a bright and spacious SO Embassy Room which offered sweeping views over Tiergarten through floor to ceiling glass that let out onto an equally roomy private terrace. Soothing neutrals and muted green hues swathed the room in calm, and we enjoyed watching the sunrise each morning from our cloud-like bed. The bathroom was a dream as well, and I enjoyed a few long soaks in the tub while taking in the view over the park.

    Dinner, Fine-Dining & Drinks
During our first night at Das Stue, we had a delicious tapas-style dinner at the hotel’s restaurant, The Casual. The menu there has a mix of creative Spanish-inspired dishes that are meant to be shared. The second restaurant at Das Stue, Cinco, has earned a Michelin star for its Spanish infused menus by chef Paco Pérezthe. Sven and I also stopped by the Stue Bar and lounge for specialty cocktails and a cozy night-cap.

    Relaxed Mornings & Spa Moments
After a lazy Saturday morning lie-in, we enjoyed a fresh breakfast and then headed to the hotel spa for a session in the sauna and dip in the pool. SO/ Berlin Das Stue is the only hotel in Berlin offering luxury treatments by Susanne Kaufmann, and they have a great selection of services for both relaxation and beauty.

    An Afternoon In The City
After spending a bit of time drifting around the hotel and enjoying the library and cozy reading nooks, Sven and I headed out for a bit of shopping and stroll through Kudamm. We ended our afternoon adventure with snacks at the KaDeWe’s gourmet food hall — the iconic department store and embassy building that now houses SO/ Berlin Das Stue were designed by the same architect, Johann Emil Schaudt.

    Traveling Safe
Because of Covid-19, Das Stue has made a few adjustments to keep guests safe and comfortable. Much to my delight, the gourmet hotel breakfast is served a la cart, and guests who wish to use the spa and fitness areas of the hotel are asked to schedule an appointment before hand. In my opinion, these changes make each experience all that more relaxed, luxurious, and personalized — feelings I always hope to experience at a 5-star hotel like SO/ Berlin Das Stue.

Letting Nature In With Baea ~ Sustainable Bedding

    October 28, 2020
    Baea Sustainable Bedding, White Bedroom

Founded in 2020 by Adah Chan, Baea is a new contemporary interiors brand committed to preserving and celebrating nature through consciously made products that softly reflect the calming and abundant beauty found outdoors.

Through Baea, Adah has woven together the experience and knowledge gleaned from her family’s multigenerational background in the textiles industry with her adoration for nature and slow-living. Baea’s foundational collection offers a thoughtful range of bedding, home textiles, and ceramic accessories — each infused with small details that echo nature’s serene and timeless beauty.

Baea makes all of their products with a deep commitment to sustainability — one that’s guided by the belief that an environmentally conscious home starts with consuming less and investing in natural products that will endure for years to come. In order to keep their impact minimal, Baea has partnered with a select group of manufacturers and artisans who slowly craft their products in small quantities. Their collections are based on light colorways since working with subdued tones requires less water consumption and chemicals throughout the dying process, and Baea also recycles 40% of the water used during their textile processing. All of the brand’s packaging is made from biodegradable materials, and Baea has made it their mission to seek out the most sustainable option whenever possible. Even the tiniest of details, such as the buttons used on Baea duvets, come from renewable plant-based materials and are made from the nut of tagua palms.

I recently updated our bed with Baea’s Merrow pillow cases (in both oxford and standard styles) which are made in Portugal using 100% organic cotton sateen. I love the way the fabric feels cool and buttery against my skin, especially since I often sleep on my side. Embroidery details in beige and off-white border the edges, softly defining each pillow while creating a simple tailored look. Merrow is one of the more subtle styles in Baea’s collection, but styles like Meadow and Rocks reflect nature more distinctly. Each is exquisitely detailed and consciously understated, drawing gentle ties to elements like fields or geological rock forms through carefully sewn embroidery motifs.

Another aspect that makes Baea particularly unique is their ability to produce Bespoke commissions and made-to-order bed linens. Working in daily unison with their artisan sewers and producing partners allows Baea to provide their organic cotton bedding in custom sizes, or with color-matched embroidery details so that the bedding ties in perfectly to any interior concept.

Life Updates & Soft Autumn Colors

    October 26, 2020
    White Interior Danish Design

Back again with another quick update before October is over. I truly can’t believe how quick this month has flown by! Here in Berlin, I feel like we’ve blown right past autumn and fallen straight into winter — especially with this soft light.

The autumn colors around the city have been beautiful this season, but it’s also been consistently cold, overcast and rainy this month. So we’ve been warming up for the winter coziness by spending a lot of time in our flat. Sven’s company already has him in home-office for the foreseeable future, and he has been working here with me for the last two weeks. It’s nice to have so much time together, but it feels quite abnormal too. I think that a lot of people are feeling a bit bleak right now, considering what seems to be on the horizon for the months to come. But as ever, we make the best of it. Still, I’ve been feeling a little “out-of-it” lately and have been having a hard time keeping a good flow going between work and life — not sure if it’s the time change, the weather, or this Covid cloud that’s been looming over the whole world!

To keep the energy up in our flat, I made a few changes last week and rearranged the living room. Since we’re not using the balcony that much right now I decided to move the sofa in front of the windows. I think it makes the space feel more open and formal, and it’s nice to have a fresh setup. Not sure how long we’ll keep it this way, but for the moment the view feels good. I still have a few more plans to change other details, like the living room curtains, and I want to get some supplies to create a large painting for the bedroom. Here are a few recent snapshots from my iPhone… just casual details from around our home.

Hope you all are well and healthy!

Fredericia ~ Designs That Complement Living

    October 21, 2020
    Fredericia Furniture, Copenhagen Design Showroom

Much to my delight, Fredericia recently introduced a whole new realm of products — small items and furniture designed to complement and complete an interior concept.

Through the Complements Collection, the Danish furniture brand has thoughtfully expanded their offering to now include pieces like lamps, mirrors, vases, and small-scale seating. The Complements Collection dials in on purposeful objects defined by honest materials and sculptural lines, designed to bring texture and character to a room. Each item in the collection serves a practical everyday function, yet the designs’ materiality and visual language has a distinctive and decorative tone. As the name aptly suggests, the objects in the collection beautifully complement the brand’s existing furniture line and have been carefully refined and crafted to endure for the years to come. A few of my favorite new releases in the collection include the Locus Bowl designed by Sofie Østerby, Islets Dining Table designed by Maria Bruun, and Sequoia Pouf and Fellow Table Lamp designed by Space Copenhagen.

Last month during 3daysofdesign, I couldn’t leave Copenhagen without popping in for a quick tour through the Fredericia showroom. It’s situated in the heart of the city, in a historic building that once served as the Royal Mail House. The light-filled showroom occupies the building’s most upper floors, complete with a terrace that offers gorgeous views of the surrounding rooftops and spires. But perhaps my favorite thing to appreciate during a visit to Fredericia is the small Børge Mogensen museum. His unwavering dedication to quality, craft, and timelessness now echoes through each design Fredericia brings forward.

by Aylin Koenig ~ From Italy With love

    October 14, 2020
By Aylin Koenig Linen AMORE Dress

Woven into each by Aylin Koenig garment is an Italian story of craft — one that’s guided by enduring quality and infused with a love for ageless design.

by Aylin Koenig was founded by Hamburg-based fashion blogger and style icon, Aylin Freund. Since launching the label in 2018, Aylin has focused on creating characteristic yet versatile garments that are informed by timelessness and a deep appreciation for Italian craft. Each by Aylin Koenig item is handmade in Italy with a sustainable mindset that centers on slow production and natural, long-lasting materials. The collections are meticulously refined to reflect Aylin’s belief that style can transcend trends and seasons, with designs flexible enough to be worn in any setting — be it the city or the seaside.

To get a better understanding of how each by Aylin Koenig garment is created, I spoke with Nisa Tosun — Nisa works in daily unison with Aylin, carefully managing the development and production of each collection. Keep scrolling to read the full interview…

    An Interview with Nisa Tosun
Head of Sourcing, Buying & Production, by Aylin Koenig

Q: Where did by Aylin Koenig’s connection to Italy begin, and what do you love most about the producers you work with there?

“Producing in Italy has always been the goal of the brand by Aylin Koenig and when I joined the team I also brought in my Italian contacts. We love that most of our productions are traditional family businesses who exist for several generations and are still in family hand. It is really amazing when your contact person’s last name is also the name of the company you work with.”

    Interview Continues Below…

By Aylin Koenig Linen AMORE Dress By Aylin Koenig Linen AMORE Dress
Q: What is the driving inspiration behind each by Aylin Koenig collection? When do you decide to put a new piece into production?

“For us it is essential that our products can be worn for more than just one season, which is why our designs are timeless yet contemporary. The creative force behind every style is Aylin herself. Aylin loves the balance between the urban city life and getaways in nature. This also reflects in our collection as every piece is suitable for many occasions from a day at the beach to a city stroll. We are always thinking of strong designs that make us and our customers feel empowered and absolutely beautiful in the by Aylin Koenig pieces. If a sample gives us that feel we go for it.”

Q: The weight and texture of the linen is absolutely perfect — from where are you sourcing your linens, and what’s the process like when sourcing new fabrics?

“Thank you, we always put a lot of thought into the choice of our fabrics as it not only determines the look and handfeel of a style but also its durability. When we source fabrics we always try to find natural materials from European fabric suppliers who we acquire together with our production facilities or directly through fabric fairs. Finding the perfect fabric can take quite some time and we even had to put styles on hold because we couldn’t find the right fabric. For us it is more important to make the right fabric choice than launching a product that we are not 100% happy with.”

By Aylin Koenig Linen By Aylin Koenig Linen AMORE Dress
Q: The detailing of each garment is so well tailored and thoughtful. How is by Aylin Koenig working with the producer to define these details? And how long does it normally take to refine an item to its finished form?

“For every style we prepare very detailed tech packs for our producers. They contain detailed information of each product, such as a technical sketch, the fabric, buttons, measurements as well as technical specifications on how to do the workmanship. An unequivocal tech pack and constant communication can save you a lot of development time and sampling costs. Additionally we are working very closely with our producers and are in contact with them every day through phone calls, video conferences and e-mails. Like that our productions get a very good understanding of our ideas and already deliver very strong prototypes. From the idea to the delivery it can take from 2 to 6 months, but it really depends on the product.”

Q: In the months to come, by Aylin Koenig plans to step into the world of ceramics. Where did this connection begin, and how did you find the Portuguese atelier who will make the brand’s ceramics?

“Honestly, by chance through online research. Doing home ware and ceramics has always been a dream of Aylin, as she is not only famous for her fashion style but also for her interior taste. We’ve been searching for artisan manufacturers and found an amazing family business which was exactly what we were looking for.”

Carolina Herrera ~ Everyday Luxury With a Cause

    October 11, 2020
Carolina Herrera Handbag Beige Street Style

I’ve always felt strongly that luxury fashion should be timeless and made to endure — seasonless silhouettes produced from quality materials with the utmost attention to detail.

The fashion house of Carolina Herrera has a certain knack for creating pieces that hit these marks, and has taken an extra step to put meaning into their work by dedicating revenues to those currently in need. Carolina Herrera was amongst the first luxury brands to respond to the global heath situation in early 2020 when the world fell into the pandemic. Until the end of the year, the brand has committed to donating 10% of sales from all handbag and accessories to the Red Cross and Red Crescent through their Heart For Hope initiative. In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Carolina Herrera’s creative director Wes Gordon stated that this charitable initiative is a direct reflection of the brand’s dedication to care and integrity — values which have always been embedded in each CH product.

So, if you’re in the market for a beautiful handbag that will last you for years and years to come, I encourage you to #choosehope with Carolina Herrera. Their entire collection is absolutely stunning, and each bag is handcrafted in Spain and designed to last a lifetime. And of course, a part of what you spend with Carolina Herrera will go to support those who have been impacted by Covid-19.

Recently, I was very kindly gifted this beautiful Madeleine Hobo shoulder bag in beige calfskin, and it’s been an absolute dream to carry with every autumn look, and the tone of the material is perfect for all seasons. The hand of the leather is well structured yet incredibly soft, and I love the beautiful gold accents that contrast the adjustable canvas shoulder strap. The miniature padlocked can be moved to lock the main zipper compartment, making this bag super practical for traveling. It’s roomy enough to hold my camera, rainhat, reusable shopping totes, and everything else I typically haul around with me, but I haven’t found it to be the least bit bulky.

Hotel Danmark by Brøchner, Copenhagen Travel, Danish Interior Design

Hotel Danmark by Brøchner Hotels is a stylish urban escape located in the heart of Copenhagen. Behind the green tiled façade, guests will discover a boutique hotel infused with laidback luxury and sleek Scandinavian design.

Brøchner has several boutique hotels throughout Copenhagen, each imagined with a thoughtful flair of its own. However, Hotel Danmark holds an extra special place in my heart since it’s where Sven and I stayed during our secret Copenhagen elopement last year! Just a few weeks ago, we were very glad to find ourselves back at Hotel Danmark, and we even got to check into the same dreamy room we stayed before. I particularly love the chic interior styling and laidback vibes that flow throughout the hotel, and the staff is always very welcoming.

    Accommodations & Vibes
During our recent visit, Sven and I happily stayed in a bright and spacious Double Superior Room which features a comfortable king-sized bed and compact yet polished bathroom. Large windows swathed in layered textiles wrap around half of the room, filling the space with soft light all day long. I definitely appreciate the contemporary and relaxed atmosphere that runs throughout all of Hotel Danmark, defined by a thoughtful ensemble of luxe materials, muted colors, and gorgeous mix of Danish furniture and lighting.

    Neighborhood & Amenities

There’s lots to do nearby the hotel, with Denmark’s National Museum, Glyptoteket, and Tivoli Gardens just around the corner. Many of these places can be spotted from Hotel Danmark’s rooftop bar and terrace, which offers sweeping views of the city. Every evening, guests are invited to enjoy a complimentary glass of wine at the cozy and chic lobby bar — a little perk we truly enjoy! Sven and I are also big fans of the hotel’s organic breakfast. We’ve had a total of nine breakfasts at Hotel Danmark and have always been impressed by the variety, flavor, and freshness!

October Aesthetic ~ Unedited Snaps From Home

October is here, and time seems to be zooming by like crazy. I’m sure that before I know it, autumn will be over and we’ll be well into another grey Berlin winter. But I’m making the most of the fall vibes, crispy weather, and soft light at home.

It’s been awhile since I’ve shared a casual update here, so I thought I’d post a few recent snaps from my iPhone. I’m still loving these neutral tones and warm shades of beige around home. Life feels pretty cozy here, and I’m looking forward to the weekend because Sven and I have a little staycation planned. I had hoped to plan a trip back to the US for a few weeks this fall to visit my family, but unfortunately I don’t think that transatlantic travel will be possible this year. Most of what Sven and I have planned for this season will happen close to our flat — strolls through our neighborhood, café visits, and relaxed evenings in.

Hope you all have a nice week!

    Xx, Rebecca
